Wilson's work, in its abundant colour, complexity of form
and aesthetic pleasure, belies - or perhaps defies -
his intention.
No more than the sea sets out to be beautiful does he seek
to represent its beauty or mystery.
Instead, he follows rigorous mathematical formulae derived
from his Airforce apprenticeship:
eg height x length x amplitude = waveform.
The resulting works - not of chance, but of underlying
physical principles - deliver a parallel pleasure to that
offered by nature.
Throughout a career spanning more than 50 years, Wilson's
work has been driven by this agenda.
The depth, consistency and development of his enquiry is
breathtaking: we show here only works produced in the past
decade.
